FIAMME GIALLE
Reinventing the mountain bivouac as livable lantern embedded in the mountain landscape
Archisbang (Eugenio Chironna, Leonardo Properzi, Nicola Luppino)
The project addresses the refurbishment of three historic mountain bivouacs — Fiamme Gialle, Renato Reali, and Aldo Moro — built in the late 1960s, through the definition of a prototype bivouac capable of reinterpreting the concept of high-altitude shelter. The design is conceived as an essential and transportable architecture, intended for helicopter assembly and installation, and constrained within a maximum volume of 21 m³. The bivouac becomes a recognizable landmark in the Alpine landscape, designed to remain visible even in low-visibility conditions. Its lantern-like form and continuous glazed cut allow a 360° relationship with the surrounding environment. An elevated entrance ensures accessibility even in heavy snow conditions, while the entirely timber structure with high-performance insulation guarantees lightness, efficiency, and rapid assembly. The exterior cladding in titanium zinc with a brass-like finish gives the bivouac an iconic character, capable of interacting with light and the mountain landscape.
